Testimony

There are many wonderful ways in which God is working (blessing) our congregation. He is working through many people in a multitude of ways. I can only speak clearly about what I am experiencing personally.

The upcoming Men's (Leadership) Retreat is a powerful example of God's willingness to listen and act according to our prayers. I have spoken at length about prayer. Let me be clear. I do not have the slightest proclivity for the monastic lifestyle. The discipline of prayer does not come easy for me. BUT, I am dependent on God's power to be at work in my life, as are you. I pray, and encourage others to pray, because God is acting on behalf of such efforts. It is POWER that I am after, and true power can only come from God.

My biggest fear is that I (and in the broader sense, the congregation of which I am a part) will not change. I need change because the status quo is not getting it done. I do not mean to sound negative about my current life circumstance (nor do I intend to reflect poorly on our congregation's past and present) but, far greater things are within the realm of possibility. I am convicted by Jesus's expression, "According to your faith, so it will be done to you."

God is willing to work through us, in wonderful, dynamic, and significant ways. Our small and seemingly insignificant congregation has at it's disposal the magnificent power of Almighty God. Will He give attention to us?... according to our faith.

I think that you are correct, Jason. We always look at the folks who get things done or who are up front. I can think of two immediate examples that just took place - the people who went to Cadillac and did amazing things there and the babtism of two young men this morning. The people that I think that we should thank the most are the prayer warriors that got God's "attention" to act on these things. I know that both these events were bathed in prayer before they were so successful. I also believe that if we pray about the future of "our" congregation the same way, we will see further success. The upcoming 24-hour prayer vigil I believe will cause the change you are seeking. Let's keep our eyes open and see.

I'm going to shock all of you now. I'm going to talk about David Phelps, my favorite singer. Hahahaha!

He wrote a song called "Power" and this blog post made me think of this song.

He said a few things about it:

"Have you ever been in a difficult circumstance for so long that it drains you of all your energy? Sometimes it can even be hard to get out of bed. When I've been there and have called on God in my need, He has always been faithful to let me plug into His supernatural power plant. Like a loving father He shows up to remind me that with Him, 'All things are possible!'"

Here are the lyrics to the song:

No mountains ever moved one inch at my command.
No waters parted at my feet.
I’m just a witness to the wonders God can do
Through willing instruments like me.
And when my best seems insignificant and frail
He offers me
The source of strength
That cannot fail…

Chorus

Power, straight from the Father
Making me stronger
And I know it’s not my own.
Power, straight from the Father
Love like no other
I’ve ever known.

There are days when circumstances spin out of control
In ways I just can’t understand.
It’s as if the best of my intentions have conspired
To reveal how powerless I am.
But there is One whose voice alone
Brings me peace
And when on high
He hears my cry
He gives to me.

This holy energy can save, redeem and heal
Like electricity, it flows through me
And I can feel…

Prayer is truely powerful and I for one do not use it enough. I feel that we can only improve as individuals and a congregation.

Good thoughts.
