A quick link...

Mike Cope's post this morning is titled, The Future of the Churches of Christ. He has some interesting preliminary thoughts, I hope he goes forth with the series (I really hope he does the blog interview with Douglas Foster).

If you have a moment, check it out.

For those who have linked, Do you agree with me that Sunshine would be a part of the declining middle group that is struggling to decide which way to lean? What do you think?

I do think that Sunshine is in the middle ground.
I attend a fairly progressive Church Of Christ. I find it very upseting that visitors keep walking out! Some do not agree with the fact that we have a praise team. Last week they anounced that Rick Atchley was going to be our guest speaker and about ten people left!!
It is extremely unsettling that there is this rift among the Churchs Of Christ.

I believe Sunshine is in the middle.

While reading from the link, I found one statement that really stuck out to me.

" (Do traditions hold back or do they anchor?)"

This is very interesting to me.

raysom,

Your congregation sounds very interesting -- on one hand, you have a praise team; on the other, people walk out rather than hear Rick Atchley. I guess that sort of thing makes being a CofCer interesting.

Jennifer,

That is an interesting question. My thought on it is that traditions do both. Throughout our historical development, we (CofC) have taken some otherwise benign terms and made them bad words (e.g. denomination, creed, and tradition).

More than half of the people in attendance are visitors. We live in a tourist area. We have many vistors from southern Alabama. Most of the C of C's in that area are extremely conservative.
The people walking out are not members, they are tourists.
