More lessons from Honduras

I heard yesterday about the military coup in Honduras - how the military overthrew a corrupt president. And how our president, Obama made a statement in support of the overthrown leader. Of course our government would come down on the side of the corrupt. After being in Honduras, I'm pretty sure our culture could learn a thing or two from some of their overly simple practices. Over throwing a corrupt president, and the practical approach to deterring criminal behavior with armed guards (robbing = getting shot). Now I realize that there's a lot of corruption in Honduras. It's definitely not the Shangri-la of the planet. But our own "educated" populace and government is taxing on the nerves to an even greater degree. To say I'm extremely dissatisfied with how the 2008 election turned out is an understatement. But in my disappointment with modern idiocy, I realized a little more clearly that efforts to make this earthly place a sort of "heaven-on-earth" is even more idiotic. Even though I detest much of what the left in this country officially stands for, it brings great comfort to know that no loss of sanity, poor election outcomes, loss of rights, and waning personal morality can change the fact that it is God who makes the sun rise and set everyday. It also does nothing to change the fact that we have a home that is perfect freedom, happiness, and health. I'm glad I won't stay on earth forever, and am more thankful for Jesus Christ and his rescue of us. I'm starting to feel a little more like a pilgrim these days, and I remain thankful for my freedoms. But in considering Honduras, I'm wondering where American common sense has gone.
