Sorry for the confusion

I created a post about Rubel Shelly's appearance on CNN- Nancy Grace Show. After I posted, I realized that the event has already occurred. Rubel was on CNN last night.

If you have no idea what I am writing about, and you care to find out, go to Mike Cope's blog for the gist (here). In the comments to his post is a transcript of the original telecast. Thus far, I have not discovered a transcript of Rubel's dialog with her. All I know is Jeff Garrett's blog stated that Rubel did good and Nancy was rude.

Jason - I seen that show last night and I could not believe my ears. I was going to write a post about it this morning but glad to see it is already out there.

Somehow something good will come out of this as sad as it is for these families and this congregation. God will see that our christians come back with the truth.

Jason -- Emerson called and told us that Nancy was accusing the church of being a cult, we watched most of the show in amazement at how the media can spout off, and get anyone who claims to have knowledge and present them as specialists. Her show was supposed to be about the murder of the minister in Tn. But what she was doing was basically attacking The Church of Christ. Her facts about the church were for the most part very wrong, yet were stated on national TV as factual. Rubel was on there and did a wonderful job. We should all be proud of how well he handled a very rude lady who only wanted to twist what was said for the benefit of her story.

It seems that the Baptist minister from the original telecast has some knowledge of what is now the International Church of Christ. He seems to have combined the ICOC with the attitude of the conservative right wing of the CofC, and passed it off as mainstream CofC thinking. My initial reaction is to get angry, but that is pointless. God has all things in His hands. It does make you wonder about the credibility of all information we get from television news.

Should we be writing letter and sending emails to Nancy or to CNN?
Do we have information and addresses as to where to send emails and letters. I feel like everyone in the Church of Christ should respond to these horrible lies.

So, Nancy Grace is rude and ignorant of the Bible and the Church of Christ doctrine. What else would you expect from CNN. Rubel did a fine job for as little as he was allowed to speak.
“Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.” Matt 5:10
Turn up the heat, the church can stand it, we need it!

Irmalee,
Personally, I do not think sending letters or emails will be of any value. Many folks have already sent messages, some gentle and some harsh. To see how many CofC folks are reacting around the country, check out the comments to the Mike Cope post I linked above. There are about 100 comments, one from a guy named Scott Gampp.

Sometimes it's hard to know just what to do in situations like this. It's frustrating, yet in this mess God can do great things. There are a few things we need to do -- We really need to pray for blessings on Mary Winkler and the WInkler children. We also need to remember Nancy Grace in our prayers as well.
